Charity will offer half off all clothing at all stores on Labor Day
Parents will spend approximately $603.63 on back to school shopping this year, says a survey from the National Retail Federation. For many local families, it’s simply too much in these difficult economic times – 43.7 percent of the 8,600 survey respondents in the national survey said the economy is forcing them to spend less, and the majority will use coupons or shop sales only.

Stores will also announce “limited time-only” specials throughout the day. “The Salvation Army is all about providing a great value to our customers, especially at this time of year, and Labor Day is a perfect time to stock up on back to school essentials for your children,” said Merle Miller, administrator of The Salvation ArmySoutheast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center, or ARC.
Proceeds from all stores benefit The Salvation Army Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center, an independently funded, 180-day residential rehabilitation program for adults.
Founded by William Booth in London, England, in 1865, The Salvation Army is a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to serving people in need without discrimination. The ARC is an integral part of TSA’s mission, and offers substance-abusing adults the opportunity to rebuild their lives through a voluntary, short-term residential self-help program designed to establish a sense of dignity, self-esteem and personal strength that will allow them to resist the desire to abuse a substance and regain their rightful place as contributing members of society. Completely self-funded, the ARC draws its entire operating budget from the revenue of the 32 Salvation Army Thrift Stores located in Southeast Michigan.
