DETROIT, July 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — From pre-school to post-grad, local education providers will join together at the premiere of the Michigan School Expo on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday July 31 from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. throughout Oakland Mall. The event is presented by WDIV-TV Local 4.

“The Michigan School Expo is a one-of-a-kind event for families in metro Detroit to explore the abundance of quality educational opportunities in our community. Educators, parents and students of all ages will come together under one roof to help prepare for key decisions about education. It’s a fantastic way to showcase the many great schools and wonderful choices, and we’re proud to bring this important community event to Oakland Mall,” said Marla Drutz, vice president and general manager of WDIV-TV Local 4.

“Oakland Mall is extremely excited to be working with WDIV on supporting the amazing education options that Michigan has to offer. We sincerely hope that this opens doors for both the educators and the students,” said David Neuman, general manager of Oakland Mall.

The Michigan School Expo will include representatives from local, national and online universities, community colleges, technical/trade schools, and private and public pre-elementary and secondary schools. Confirmed educational providers include all 15 of Michigan’s public universities, Hazel Park Schools’ “Promise Zone” – offering college tuition to high school graduates, the Hinoki International School – a unique bi-lingual public charter school, the Winans Academy of Performing Arts, Specs Howard School of Media Arts, the Kaplan Career Institute and many more. Special exhibits include the AAA of Michigan Teen Driving Safety program featuring interactive driving simulators and the Hansons’ Windows and Siding “Sing-A-Jing” contest to win a $500 savings bond. The Michigan School Expo kicks off Saturday with a special performance from the Southfield Lathrup High School marching band.
