Data collected from Serve The D will be used by the Collaborative's leadership team to assess how those who volunteer in the Metro Detroit area are serving, where they are serving, and what supports need to be put in place to continue encouraging service and volunteerism in Detroit. Serve The D will also collect individual stories of service to help those involved in the revitalization of the Metro Detroit region demonstrate the commitment of the Detroit community.

Serve The D is being launched in coordination with the free KEM Call to Service concert. This day-long free concert and food drive will benefit the area's homeless shelters and food banks and will provide an opportunity for volunteers to serve the homeless and others in need. For more information, visit www.mackandthird.org. Representatives of the Collaborative leadership team and other volunteers will be promoting Serve The D at the free concert and will be available to answer questions at the Peoplemovers booths and information table.

The survey and web presence (www.SEMVC.peoplemovers.com/SEMVC) for the collaborative are managed by Peoplemovers.com. "Peoplemovers.com is extremely excited to be a part of this effort, as the organizations involved are truly leaders in making our region stronger," said Keith Zendler, CEO and Founder of Peoplemovers. "Their collaboration is a model for the rest of the region and is already encouraging other leaders to connect and collaborate on our network."

About the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Collaborative

Nonprofit organizations in southeast Michigan with a focus on service and volunteerism have been joining forces over the last eight months to form the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Collaborative. The vision of the collaborative is to become a network of strong organizations working together to put service and volunteerism at the forefront of the Southeast Michigan region. Thanks to a grant from the Kellogg Foundation, the collaborative has been able to convene three times to share best practices, set goals, and discuss service as a strategy for community vitality. The group will meet again this fall, but a time has not been selected.

The collaborative is led by a group of Detroit area and state Partners including: The City of Detroit - Cities of Service Office, Volunteer Center of the United Way of SE Michigan, the Michigan Nonprofit Association - Metro Detroit Partnership Office, the Michigan State Office of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Michigan Community Service Commission, the Volunteer Centers of Michigan, and the Michigan Campus Compact.
