In 1830, Peter Coan was the first person to settle this Wayne County area. In 1847, Taylor Township was constructed. Jared Sexton was its first supervisor. The township was named for General Zachary Taylor, who was then known for his victories in the Mexican War. On January 12, 1863, this settlement was given a post office as Taylor Center. Mr. Sexton served as its first post master. That office remained in operation until February 15, 1914. From that day until Stanley A. Grendal became the first postmaster of Taylor on October 7, 1958, the town had been serviced by several adjacent post offices. The town wasn't incorporated as a city until May of 1968. The most recent years of Taylor's history have been characterized by development and improvement. No longer agricultural, the community boasts comfortable neighborhoods, great schools, a variety of shopping opportunities and serveral industrial parks.
