Lenox Township is located in Northeastern Macomb County, on the St. Clair County line. Its largest community is New Haven, which is to the south on Gratiot Rd. This area is a mixture of urban and rural, consisting of both subdivisions scattered among small farms and fields. The Wetzel State Park is also located here, a freshwater marsh-like area that features several undeveloped marshy areas with turn-offs along Coon Creek. Lenox Township was originally organized in 1837. It began as a sheep raising community. A slaughterhouse was built at Muttonville which eventually served the entire Detroit area.
