Want to fight hunger in Detroit? Buy a loaf of bread

Buy bread and support hunger relief.

Starting Saturday, Kroger kicks off its 11th annual bread campaign to benefit the Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club. For every 20-ounce loaf of Kroger brand bread that customers buy at all 126 stores through May 14, the Kroger Co. of Michigan will donate one loaf to the Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club.

Kroger’s goal is to donate 50,000 loaves of bread. If you can’t make it to a store, you donate via phone by texting KROGER to 41444.  For every $5 donated via text, Kroger will donate four loaves of bread to the program. The bed and bread program serves more than 4,200 meals daily to men, women and children via a mobile soup kitchen at designated stops in Detroit. The program also provides shelter to more than 500 homeless people each night.
