The Village of Ecorse was incorporated in 1903 and then changed to a city in 1941. The city is located in
Wayne county. Some early maps and records about Ecorse have the spelling as Ecorce.
Ecorse has been noted to be home of the Wyandotte Indians and the city was located at the mouth of the stream
that early settlers called the Riviere Aux Ecorses, because of the amount of suitable bark along the shorelines that were used for canoe building. Ecorse is French for bark.
