WXYZ distributing thousands of books to metro Detroit children during drive-by book fair

Due to severe weather, the drive-by book fair will be postponed to Sept. 2.

With virtual school starting in a few weeks for most, it’s more important than ever that we don’t forget about the importance books play in children’s’ lives.

That’s why WXYZ is giving away thousands of books to metro Detroit children. Through the generosity of WXYZ staff, the Scripps Howard Foundation and viewers, “If You Give A Child A Book” campaign will get two books into the hands of 1,400 school children.

On Wednesday, WXYZ will distribute the books to children during a drive-by Back to School Fair at Matrix Human Services in Detroit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Families will also be able to pick up 1,000 essential needs packages (formula, diapers, wipes, masks and etc..).

7 Action News Anchor Carolyn Clifford and WXYZ-TV General Manager Mike Murri will be also be distributing books to children and their families.
