The inaugural Morgan Behen Golf Classic will be held Monday, August 21, at the R&S Sharf & Katke-Cousins Golf Course, on Oakland University’s (OU) campus.

The golf outing is in honor of OU graduate and Rochester Hills, Mich. native, Morgan Behen, who passed away in October, 2016, from DIPG, a rare brain cancer. She received her B.A. in Special Education. Money raised from Morgan Behen Endowment Fund will be awarded to OU juniors or seniors in the university’s Education Department.

“We’ve raised $40,000 so far to benefit OU students who have a 3.5 or better GPA,” said Donetta Behen, the golf classic chair and Morgan’s mom. “Funds raised have come from Platinum Sponsor, Sysco Foods – Detroit,  Stefany Lester Freeman and Gary Freeman, Tom and Pam Callan, Laura Varon Brown and Jeff Brown and Beth, and Todd Sinclair on behalf of Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit.  In addition, there are 11 other Gold and Silver level sponsors.

“This is the first year and we hope this will help establish an ongoing legacy of support for others, like Morgan, who want to help the world through educating students.”

In Morgan’s words: “Be brave in the face of fear, dream big, never stop pursuing your passions and most of all, love unconditionally.”

The Classis will begin at 9 a.m. with breakfast, followed by a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The golf course is located at 480 S. Adams Rd., Rochester, Mich. 48309. For more information or to register, visit:, or contact, or call 248-762-9326.
