Artists, fans come together — at a distance — for Detroit music fest

Live music slipped back into its groove Saturday in downtown Detroit.

Artists and music lovers at the Detroit Music Weekend festival spoke of a sense of mission as they gathered in a lot outside Music Hall for the biggest music event in Michigan since the pandemic shutdown.

The mood was laid-back, celebratory and cautious at the scheduled nine-hour event, which featured dozens of performers from across genres. The afternoon filled the north edge of downtown with soul, jazz, world beats and acoustic music, breaking the silence that had dominated since March.
