Baldwin Public Library Celebrates Flag Day with Elected Officials

On Saturday, June 12, elected officials will read stories celebrating America at the Baldwin Public Library to celebrate Flag Day.  This family friendly event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and everyone is invited to attend.

Elected officials participating in this event include:

  • Congressman Gary Peters
  • State Representative Chuck Moss
  • Oakland County Commissioner David Potts
  • Birmingham Mayor Rackeline Hoff
  • Library Board President Ann Conigliaro
  • Beverly Hills Village President Todd Stearn
  • Bingham Farms Village President David Leckie

“To continue to be a great nation, we must not only teach our kids to read proficiently, we must also help instill in them a love for reading and a thirst for knowledge.  We also need to continue the tradition of patriotism that has defined and strengthened America for generations,” said Congressman Gary Peters.  “Celebrating Flag Day by reading alongside our kids does both.”

Musical entertainment and a dedication of the Library’s new flag pole will take place as well.  Edward Katz, longtime Birmingham resident, businessman, and World War II veteran provided funding for the flag pole.

“I am excited to be able to use this day as an opportunity to engage our children in reading about the history and symbols of our country and the value of books in learning,” said Library Board President Ann Conigliaro.
