Business Leaders for Michigan: Michigan’s Turnaround has Begun!

DETROIT, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Business Leaders for Michigan, the state’s business roundtable, today applauded Governor Rick Snyder as he signed into law tax changes that will significantly improve Michigan’s ability to grow and compete for jobs.

“With today’s action, Michigan’s turnaround has begun!” said Doug Rothwell, President and CEO.  “The business tax changes are the single biggest improvement to Michigan’s job climate in almost two decades.  The turnaround isn’t complete, but we’re on our way!”

“We thank Governor Snyder for his leadership, and for sending a clear message across Michigan, and across the nation and around the world that Michigan is serious about competing for business. With a simpler, fairer tax structure, Michigan can be more competitive and as a result, grow jobs.”

Rothwell also commended others who worked cooperatively toward creating an environment that businesses need to grow jobs.

“When we put together the Michigan Turnaround Plan, we knew that charting a new course for Michigan would be no easy task.  Those working on this issue – Governor Snyder, Lt. Governor  Calley, Senate Majority Leader Richardville, House Speaker Bolger and so many members of the Legislative – showed an impressive commitment to the long-term well-being of our state.  Today’s action demonstrated that with a goal of a brighter future for our state, we can do great things.”

Rothwell noted that Business Leaders for Michigan would continue efforts to implement the remaining provisions of the Michigan Turnaround Plan. “Our members will continue to work to see that Michigan tops any list of places to invest and grow jobs.”

Commenting further, Rothwell said, “Our members live, work and raise our families here.  We want a state where there are good jobs and bright futures for our children and grandchildren.”
