D is for Detroit: Motown funds 2,000 learning kits for area families

Motown Records’ new social media campaign has been rolling through the alphabet — and today finds its way home with a very familiar letter “D.”

Detroit is the Friday focus of Motown’s new ABC Initiative, launched during the coronavirus pandemic as a way of “holding our community down and keeping close with fans the Motown way,” as an introductory post described the campaign.

Among today’s beneficiaries is Brilliant Detroit, a nonprofit that provides education, health and social support to families in city neighborhoods. Via the ABC Initiative, Motown is funding 2,000 home-learning kits for children served by Brilliant Detroit, which has pivoted to in-home programs while its seven community centers remain closed during the coronavirus pandemic.
