Ecstatic dog welcomes home Michigan Coast Guard grad after 8-week boot camp

This is what true love looks like between a dog and her owner. Miranda Day of Detroit had just returned home after being at U.S. Coast Guard boot camp for 8 weeks and said she didn’t even know if her beloved pooch, Alex, would remember her.

Alex not only remembered Day, she went nuts showing how much she missed her, as you see in the video above, which you’ll only see on MLive. “We adopted her last summer from Friends of Detroit. She’s just one and a half years old,” said Day. “I was a little worried she might not remember me because we didn’t have her for very long before I left.”

Day, whose husband, Roland, shot the reunion video, says she had been at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May in New Jersey for an intensive two months of training. Day says she graduated with honors and will serve as a U.S. Coast Guard reservist at Station St. Clair Shores.

“Our training just so happened to go through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, so it was an especially emotional return home.”
