For Michigan’s 3- and 4-year-olds with special needs, ‘it’s hard’ to find a place to learn

Nicole Maloy has been trying to get her son Alexander into a preschool that can address his speech delay since the day he turned 3. When he was younger, he was in a program called Early On that works with babies and toddlers who have special needs. When he’s older, he’ll be in a kindergarten program where teachers will be required by law to make sure he gets what he needs. But right now he’s 3 and, in Michigan, there’s no clear path for parents trying to get special services for their 3- and 4-year olds.
