Heather Henson performs “Celebration of Flight” with Ibex Puppetry at Detroit Institute of Arts

Company founded by famed puppeteer Heather Henson, daughter of Jim Henson

WHAT: Heather Henson’s Ibex Puppetry, an internationally renowned performance troupe, will present “Celebration of Flight” on the north lawn of the Detroit Institute of Arts. The performance follows the story of a young crane as it learns to fly and features large-scale puppets and kites. Visitors can build their own kites from noon to 4 p.m. each day to fly with Henson and other company puppeteers during the performance.

Performances at 2 and 4 p.m. each day

OTHER: Seating will be picnic-style. Audience members are invited to bring blankets and chairs.

Hours and Admission

Museum hours are 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for ages 6-17, and free for DIA members and residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. For membership information call 313-833-7971.
