Heidelberg Project plans Heidelburgers restaurant in Detroit’s McDougall-Hunt area

Heidelberg has another project cooking, and it involves beef.

From the minds behind the Heidelberg Project is Heidelburgers, a restaurant planned to open next summer on Detroit’s east side in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood, Heidelberg Project President and CEO Jenenne Whitfield said.

The concept will be piloted Oct. 19 with an “edible art” dining experience at the Heidelberg Headquarters Guest House. Tickets cost $40. Whitfield said nearly all of the total 80 tickets have been sold.

Local chef Jeffrie Toney will head up the kitchen during the pop-up and permanent restaurant. The menu staples will be vegan, veggie, turkey and beef burgers alongside fries and other “delicious side fixins,” according to a news release.

“There are very few places to eat in the neighborhood, but we have so many people coming through the area,” Whitfield said. “It’s a chance to celebrate the new energy in the neighborhood.”
