Higher Hopes! to host 8th annual Thanksgiving turkey meal program

For the 8th year, nonprofit Higher Hopes! plans to provide 1,000 Detroit area families with full Thanksgiving meals through its “1,000 Turkeys, 10,000 Smiles” program, according to a press release. The meal kits include a turkey, sides and dessert, with enough to feed 12 to 16 people.

In addition to Thanksgiving meals, Higher Hopes! provides 1,000 families with monthly meal kits, each containing 35-45 pounds of food. The families have children enrolled in Early Head Start Child Care Programs in Southeast Michigan. To qualify for these programs, the family’s income must be equal to or below the poverty line.

Earlier this year, Higher Hopes! was able to rescue food and hygiene products which would otherwise have been lost due to supply chain disruptions.

“Higher Hopes! heroes invest time and money to provide households with access to sufficient, nutritious food,” said Higher Hopes! founder, Bill Birndorf.
