New Detroit drive-in theater opens Friday: Tickets, showings, more

Remember the scene in “Jurassic Park” when they see the dinosaur in real life. The scientists are in awe? And the park’s lawyer says: “We’re gonna make a fortune with this place!”

That might be what it will be like Friday night for moviegoers when the downtown Detroit drive-in theater opens showing the dinosaur movie. Especially judging by the surge in searches for the theater — and that the tickets already are sold out.

It’s almost like we forgot what the big screen was like, after months of the pandemic.

The Monroe Street Drive-in, a block from Campus Martius, will debut with a screening of the Steven Spielberg film that brought dinosaurs to life and made the velociraptor famous.
