New pastor coming to Immanuel Lutheran in South Lyon

The Rev. Matthew C. Minzlaff will be installed as the new pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 330 E. Liberty, during a service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. Members of the South Lyon community are invited to the service and to meet Minzlaff.

He was born in Niles, Ill., in August 1980. He prepared for the ministry in various Lutheran schools in Wisconsin, graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon in 2006. To gain practical experience for the ministry, he was a student assistant (vicar) at Lutheran churches in Taylor and Springerville, Ariz., in 2004.

Upon graduation from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Minzlaff was assigned to serve at St. Jacob and St. John congregations in the greater Tomah, Wis., area. A third congregation, St. Peter Lutheran Church of Indian Creek, Wis., was added to his work in 2016.

Minzlaff’s wife Melissa was born and raised In Belleville. She is the daughter of the Rev. James Frey of Belleville. She is a graduate of Martin Lutheran College, New Ulm, Minn., and a Christian Day School teacher. The Minzlaffs have a 6-year old-daughter, Sophia.

Minzlaff enjoys sports, bike rides and relaxing with his wife and daughter and dog, Lucy. He is looking forward to his ministry in South Lyon.
