Salvation Army’s ‘World Tallest Red Kettle’ returns to Detroit

The “World’s Tallest Red Kettle” has returned to downtown Detroit.

On Friday morning, the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit installed the 56-foot-tall, 24-foot-wide kettle in Cadillac Square to kick off the unofficial start of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.

The kettle is decorated with 26,000 LED lights. While testing of the structure’s lights took place Friday  morning, it will not actually be lit for display until Nov. 19, when the annual Campus Martius tree lighting occurs.
