The Detroit Tigers to donate $5 for each ticket package sold

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit, The Parade Company and the Detroit Tigers are spreading holiday cheer a little early this year, when the sixth annual Christmas in July, sponsored by The Parade Company, returns to Comerica Park. The holiday themed event will take place during the Tigers home game against the Washington Nationals on July 31 at 1:08 p.m.

Special ticket packages are now available for $44 and include an upper box infield ticket, Detroit Tigers Christmas in July t-shirt, hot dog, bag of chips and small Pepsi. For each package sold, the Detroit Tigers will donate $5 to The Salvation Army. For tickets, visit www.tigers.com/promotions and select Christmas in July or call (866) 66-TIGERS.

Tigers fans of all ages making their way in to the park will enjoy the sounds of classic holiday tunes performed by The Salvation Army Brass Band, as well as a special visit from Santa Claus and Santa PAWS.

The Parade Company’s “Santa’s Workshop” and “Celebrate Detroit” floats, along with mascot Clownie, will add a festive touch to the outside of Comerica Park. New this year, The Parade Company will install a halfpipe, with stunt riders performing tricks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Tigers have invited more than 500 Salvation Army day campers to watch the game and participate in a ‘prance around the park’ warning track parade before the game. Joining in the procession will be 50 dancing elves from Tina Marie’s School of Dance.

The Salvation Army A.R.C. Singers will perform the national anthem on the field prior to the first pitch.

“We’re thankful to the Detroit Tigers for hosting Christmas in July for the sixth year and for inviting our summer day campers to Comerica Park for an experience they won’t soon forget,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Many of the children have not had the chance to attend a professional baseball game, let alone been invited on to the field.”

Red Kettles in July are a rare sight, but The Salvation Army’s iconic bell ringers will be stationed at each gate collecting donations to benefit the nonprofit’s programs and services.
