Toys For Tots: Campaigns Starting In Metro Detroit

Attention! With the season of giving fast approaching, the Marine Toys for Tots campaigns are set to begin across the country.

The mission of the foundation is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them to less fortunate children at Christmas. The nonprofit public charity was founded at the behest of the Marine Corps in 1991, and is still run exclusively by veteran Marines.

Today, there are hundreds of local campaigns across the United States in which residents can donate toys, apply for toys and even host a Marine Toys for Tots fundraising event.

This year, the campaign in Metro Detroit kicked off on Oct. 1.

Gunnery Sergeant Mitchell, R. W. and Sergeant Grussenmeyer, Christopher M. are the Toys for Tots Coordinator for Metro Detroit.

Children selected to receive toys through the program will be notified of the pickup point after their application has been accepted.

Overall in 2018, 73,973 toys were distributed locally and 20,618 children were supported through the campaign in Wayne and Macomb counties. Oakland County is coordinated by Rebecca Yarbrough and they gave out some 50,000 toys last year.
