Workout at Home With These 5 Metro Detroit Fitness Offerings

It’s hard enough to find a fitness schedule to stick to, but when you’re stuck at home and practicing social distancing, it can feel almost impossible to motivate yourself to workout. However, with these online workout options, it’s almost easier than ever to stay active. Here are five metro Detroit fitness studios that are providing the community options to workout at home.

Citizen Yoga

Put together in just four days, Citizen Yoga’s online platform provides much-needed zen during this time of social distancing. All of the live Vimeo classes are available at no cost, and videos can be rented for $8 if you couldn’t catch the class time. Besides different yoga class options, Citizen Yoga is also offering no-cost group therapy sessions with local therapists and online workshops and meditations. Owner and founder of Citizen Yoga, Kacee says the studio’s mission is suicide prevention, and that the goal is to support the community as well as Citizen Yoga’s staff and teachers right now. Visit citizenyogastudio.com for more information.

Detroit Barre

Welcoming experts and newbies, Detroit Barre focuses on bare technique while hoping to positively affect its members. Although the Franklin Street studio is closed until further notice, online classes are being held on Instagram Live through @detroit_barre. The studio asks those interested to follow their social media for updates and class times. Visit instagram.com/detroit_barre/ for more information.

Get Some Fitness

Get Some Fitness’ virtual options provide just as much high-energy fun as in-person class sessions. Streaming on Vimeo Premium, the classes vary from boxing, barre, and weight training. The videos feature multiple camera angles, so viewers can fully understand how to replicate what the trainer is doing, and there’s a chat feature so viewers can communicate with the team. Classes must be booked online or through the Get Some Fitness app, and participants will be sent a password to unlock the class. Drop-in classes are $15, and first time classes are free for local residents only. Members can also stop by the Beverly Hills-based gym to sign out dumbells and bars to be used in virtual classes. Visit getsomefitness.com for more information.

Updog Yoga

Jill Rocker, owner of UpDog Yoga, says that she and her staff believe it is important for people to continue maintaining their regular wellness practices as much as possible. The UpDog From Home Facebook group, which features live streams and video content from instructors, is available at no cost for those with an unlimited membership at the studio. The plan is for the classes to open up to everyone for $10 starting in April. Those interested in one-on-one sessions can have customized virtual yoga therapy sessions with pricing ranging from $35-$65 per appointment. Visit updogyoga.com for more information.
