Meet the 7 year old who’s helping clear snow from seniors’ driveways across Ann Arbor

Children across Washtenaw County were encouraged to use their snow day Tuesday to play outside or keep warm inside and read a book.

But Garrett Straits had business to attend to.

The 7-year-old Milan resident and his dad, Jerry, hit the road in the morning of Feb. 16 to help residents in neighborhoods throughout Ann Arbor clear their driveways of eight inches of snow.

While “Garrett’s Snow Removal” has helped Garrett earn $50 to $60 per day after a good snowfall, he doesn’t charge seniors or those in need for his services, knowing the challenges they may face in clearing their driveways and sidewalks.
