Top places for fish and chips across metro Detroit this Lenten season

Cod or pollock. Malt vinegar or tartar sauce. French fries or chips.

Bring on fish fry season.

Ash Wednesday signaled the start of the Lenten season. It’s when Christians across metro Detroit and beyond observe a period of reflection, repentance and sacrifice for the six weeks leading up to Easter.

Giving up meat is the most popular observance.

And for that reason, Lent is also when area restaurants serving fish and chips reel in (sorry, I couldn’t resist) customers, especially on Fridays.

This year, with seating-capacity limits still in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, the landscape of favorite places for a fish fry most likely has changed. Many places also have different hours than before.
